Turn Sunday into a pizza-making tradition with a backyard pizza bar that lets everyone build their own perfect pie. With a hot pizza stone, simple dough, and a spread of classic toppings, each pizza can be customized before heading onto the grill or into the oven for a crisp, golden crust. It's a fun way to bring everyone together for a relaxed meal that feels part dinner, part activity.
Ingredients (per pizza)
- 1 ball pizza dough (store-bought or homemade), room temperature
- ¼ cup pizza sauce
- ¾ cup shredded mozzarella
- Toppings: pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, fresh basil
- Flour or cornmeal, for dusting
Instructions
- Place the pizza stone on the grill grate or in the oven and preheat to 500°F for at least 30 minutes — the stone needs the full runway to get hot enough for a crisp crust.
- Dust the peel with flour or cornmeal, stretch out the dough on top, and add sauce, cheese, and toppings.
- Slide the pizza directly onto the hot stone using the peel. Cook 6-9 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- Use the peel to transfer the finished pizza back out, let it rest 2 minutes, then slice.
- Repeat the remaining dough balls — this is where a second stone comes in handy if you’re feeding a crowd.
